Lead Machine Learning Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a talented and driven Lead Machine Learning Engineer to join Avaamo s Product Engineering team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape and enhance the core features of our search technology stack, focusing on areas like search ranking models, query understanding, and natural language question answering.
What You ll Do
- Innovate and expand the capabilities of our search stack, including ranking models, query parsing, and NLP-driven question answering.
- Gain a deep understanding of search usage patterns and user needs, identifying areas for improvement and growth.
- Design, prototype, and iterate on cutting-edge ML/NLP/Information Retrieval solutions to enhance our search functionality.
- Develop and optimize an experimentation framework to evaluate and track improvements to the search stack.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that is easy to test and scale.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative learning environment and sharing your expertise.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
- A BS in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning, NLP, or related fields.
- Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, with the ability to extract insights and build effective solutions.
- Experience in recommendation systems, natural language processing, LLMs, applied machine learning, or large-scale search/ranking systems.
Key Skills & Qualities
- Collaborative, customer-focused, and team-oriented, with a willingness to contribute across multiple areas of the product.
- Proactive, positive, and self-driven, with the ability to take ownership of both small tasks and large features.
- Proven experience in designing and building complex search/ranking/recommendation systems.
