Role Summary

The Senior Test Engineer acts as an advocate for the quality of the applications and software features based on the product requirements. S/he serves as a senior member of the test team in the development of test programs, and debugs processes for new products and releases.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Technology Awareness:

• Effective awareness and uses of technology relevant to role like SQL, deployment of application/Configuration of application etc.,

• Has understanding of technical direction of IT in general terms

Process and Productivity:

• Has sound knowledge to identify project goals and objectives and set the appropriate control limits for the project

• Ability to create the right dashboards with the right representation of the metrics

• Has the knowledge to identify at sub-process level which requires monitoring

• Ability to identify and implement / bring about the changes to the factors impacting the performance of the sub-process

• Strategizes the Quality framework for project and work with Quality team to implement

• Identifies, measures, monitors the productivity of team, proposes solutions to improve the productivity and drives those ideas to actions

Test Case Design:

• Has extensive knowledge of the test case design techniques to be able to use and review them with stakeholders

• In-depth understanding of test case design concepts and mentor the team appropriately

• Can not only create conceptual test case design techniques but also can identify reusable test case components

• Ability to define a test case design process for the project from org level process and easy to create regression suite(s).
  
  

• Master on multiple tools which can host the test cases.
  

• Also identifies unstated requirements and writes test cases

Test Planning:

• Demonstrates an understanding of business needs, culture, domain and suggests an appropriate testing strategy.
  
  

• Suggests tools and techniques to carry out different types/ levels of testing, Analyses product testing needs both stated and unstated
  

• Has the ability to articulate the requirements converting the objective to the end (output) and also identifies the risks involved from testing perspective. Can give ideas on how to mitigate those risks.

• Identifies the gap in the testing process

• Understands the testing scope and testing timelines

Test Execution:

• • Mentors test execution for the team within the project

  • Has ability to set up data/environment and execute test cases for large / complex projects

  • Ability to identify workaround for roadblocks in his current project test execution

  • Ability to focus more on non-functional aspects in testing such as performance, reliability, security, maintainability, usability & reusability

  • Ability to handle issues such as test data, unavailability of test environment (test environment down) during test execution and communicate impact to schedule, effort and cost to relevant stakeholders

  • Ability to train people on test execution and defect management

Product Knowledge:

• Complete knowledge of the product, is an SME of the product/application worked up on.

• Deep knowledge of most of the sub domains of the product, understanding of all interfaces of this system.

• Ability to interact with client and give demo of the entire product, their values and the benefits

• Ability to understand client process with product process and perform gap analysis

• Ability to configure most of the modules of the product to client requirements, ability to provide workarounds from business perspective for various situations.

Domain Expertise:

• High level understanding of overall healthcare domain & applicable regulations

• Deeper understanding of at least one subdomain under healthcare

Defect Analysis:

• Analyze and understands medium -high complex issues involving multiple applications

• Deeper understanding of business logic

• Ability to suggest solutions and work around for medium-high complexity issues.

• Has the ability to carry out root cause analysis of defects logged and make the necessary recommendations involving defect fixes

• Has ability to conduct defect triage meets and provide more details about the defects if required

Non functional requirements (NFR) Design:

• Demonstrates understanding of NFR requirements.

• Has ability to articulate clearly the NFR requirements.

• Has ability to incorporate the NFR requirements into high level design

• Has skills to execute test cases to validate NFR's

Project Management:

• Needs guidance in creating and managing the project plan, resource plan and infrastructure requirements.

• Needs help to manage the project across a phases

• Needs support to deliver a POC on the defined specifications.

• Needs expert help for identifying risk and risk mitigation strategy.

Review Peer Work Test:

• Ability to review test cases, test execution, test data of medium-high complex requirements.

• Ability to identify the gaps in the work and requirements/plan, risks, estimates

• Designs and implement test plans, test specifications and test reports based on product requirements with direction from the Test Lead

• Performs testing duties for the products assigned and reports status to the Test Lead

• Ensures all defects found during testing are reported and tracked

• Works with the development team and relevant stakeholders to resolve issues found throughout the SDLC

• Provides detailed test execution records as directed by the Test Lead

• Participates in product design reviews to provides input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems

• Reviews product and software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, or completeness.

• Ensures that unit tests are carried out to an appropriate standard, including routine automation of those tests.

• Recommends process improvements to the management team

• Participates in the creation of user stories from product requirements, estimating those requirements and providing input for project and release planning.

• Provides support for the customer support team on an occasional basis, helping to deliver solutions to customer problems

• Communicates effectively with Test Lead and Project Manager and escalates issues where appropriate

• Helps identify and implement new process improvements and adheres to all QA processes and procedures.

• Mentors other members of the test team in areas where appropriate and provides on-the-job training to junior test engineers.
