Role Overview: As a Data Scientist at MSRC, you will leverage your expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs), Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to design and build systems capable of reasoning over vast amounts of data. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to develop fine-tuned LLM models, evaluate model outputs, and work on solutions that align with the product's needs. This role requires you to think creatively and work across teams to drive innovative solutions while maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Develop ML Systems: Design, build, and deploy systems that enable LLMs to reason over large data sets, leveraging lighter models where applicable. Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with engineers and partner teams to deliver solutions, including fine-tuning LLM models and evaluating model outputs for product requirements. Applied Science & Experimentation: Conduct experiments in applied science, develop metrics, build ML pipelines, and implement algorithms for LLM, NLP, and Information Retrieval. Data Management & Integrity: Prepare and manage data, ensure data cleanliness, and communicate project updates to senior leadership. Contribute to data ethics and privacy policies. Build Conversational Models: Develop and deploy conversational models for natural language understanding at scale. Responsible AI & Privacy: Advocate for and follow best practices in Responsible AI and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with security, engineering, and product teams to align models with business goals, gather feedback, and drive effective execution of strategies. Thought Leadership: Provide feedback to engineering teams, identify business opportunities, and contribute to industry best practices. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience, OR Equivalent experience in the field. 3+ years of hands-on experience in Machine Learning. Proficiency in using ML tools such as Pytorch and TensorFlow. Experience in prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and using OpenAI or Azure Open AI APIs. Strong system development skills with experience in developing both rapid prototypes and complex, architected systems. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing and deploying conversational models at scale. Familiarity with Responsible AI practices and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work in a fast-paced environment.
