The India Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 900 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub within PG Business and HVDC and FACTS engineering center outside ABB Sweden. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports ABB units in more than 25 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 60 countries.

Your responsibilities

• Defines technical software solution and ensures alignment with other modules and surrounding software applications through cooperation and collaboration across solution architects and delivery units.
• Engages in requirement engineering to decide which requirements are covered by available standard functionalities, for which functionalities enhancements are needed and for which functionalities workarounds are accepted.
• Supports validation and prioritization of incoming business demand in collaboration with the relevant Software Service Manager and Steering Committee.
• Reviews and signs off the functional and technical use case specifications.
• Keeps knowledge up to date regarding new and emerging software technology and software industry practices, bringing learning into Power Grids High Voltage
• Collaborates with users in projects and problem management to maintain, develop and deploy the best feasible and most cost-efficient solutions/services for the business.
• Ensures manuals for users are created to describe the operating procedures.
• Consults the users to identify and learn about current procedures and to clarify further requirements.
• Supports the installation, management, maintenance, and optimization of all software processes related to the area of responsibility.
• Provides guidance to software project management and delivery unit team in how to utilize software application/solution standards (e.g. SAP) effectively.
• Communicates project delivery related decision demand towards project and service management in collaboration with Global Software Domain Architect to ensure resolution and avoid delivery issues.
• Commits and contributes to common result oriented collaboration with the various business processes
• Proactively supports issue resolution during project delivery to avoid delays or any other form of negative impact to a project or service.

Your background

• A Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of solution architecture experience across various IT areas, including track record in the domain of applications for after-sales / service delivery.
• Passion for pushing the boundaries of new technologies.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong background in software engineering.
• Good understanding of enterprise architecture landscape.
• Proven track record of delivering results in software/technology.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical vision around strategic goals.
• Mobile, AR, AI/cognitive understanding, or hands-on experience in those area, is a plus.
• Fluent English language and good interpersonal and communication skills.
