POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent will be responsible for Managing R&D team (India) for delivering new designs or modification of existing products from concept to launch using a structured product development process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a cross functional R&D teams and manage all aspects of development to deliver on-time and to budget new products with exceptional quality which exceed the expectation of the customer.
  • Develop detailed design requirements by obtaining voice of the customer and interpreting into voice of the designer. Ensure these processes are documented and deployed across the organization.
  • Manage projects using a stage gate development process with focus on delivering results on-time, every-time.
  • Plan, manage and report status of projects to the management and broader organization.
  • Work towards identifying and leveraging synergies across the teams. Benchmark best practices/ learn from other sites, horizontally deploy best practices.
  • Constantly Drive Talent Hiring & Development, Engagement and retention, Target setting & Performance management system
  • Create a strong team, ability to hire prospective leaders/ technology experts and mentor them. Ability to lead teams through various situations. Take lead and steer a situation. Stand by the team, take key decisions. Creates and reinforces a culture promoting the value of diverse and strong teams; Integrates diversity and inclusion efforts to drive the organization forward.
  • Consistently models and coaches the
    Altra culture ABS at every level of
    the organization. Trains, coaches and uses Policy Deployment to drive results and breakthroughs. Articulates and promotes the power of a comprehensive view of ABS including Growth, Lean and Leadership.
  • Continuously collaborate with the Product Management and Business Development teams to understand customer and market needs.
  • Collaborate with the NPD and Operations team to give an "Integrated Design and Manufacturing" approach to the product design and development process. Continuously work with the Operations team to ensure better yield and manufacturability.
  • Continuously evaluate situations and take appropriate decisions that are important and appropriate for the organization from a long-term perspective. Be ready to take tough decisions. Reads situations quickly and accurately; acts promptly and communicates appropriately with transparency and trust. Not afraid to take a tough position. Articulates what needs to be said at the right time and place with sensitivity at all levels within the organization.
  • Have an acumen for listening, absorbing key points from crucial discussions with both internal and external customers.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • In depth knowledge of current and future technology trends. Ability to analyze organizations technology landscape and create roadmaps for technology advancement/optimization to ensure an alignment with market trends and customer demands.
  • In depth understanding of product portfolio, market trends and product gaps. Ability to deep dive into customers unmet needs/ VOC and assimilate the information to create product road maps from design standpoint.
  • Actively participate in Strategy Planning process and give necessary insights on the product and technology roadmaps. Drive the PPG process to improve the funnel and create processes to improve funnel conversion with focus on Design Win revenue.
  • Effectively manage various ongoing programs with focus on cost, quality and delivery. Ability to develop a work break down structure with focus on milestones, accountability matrix and defining key measurement criteria.
  • Create a rigor and process around continuous monitoring of KPI's. Use tools for monitoring and controlling the KPI performance. Ensure communication around the performance on KPI's with broader team, continuously align the team on priorities.
  • Ability to comprehend customer needs, keep a strong rapport with important leaders of key customers. Collaborate with customer R&D/ Technical teams to ensure a constant VOC on current products and future needs.
  • Conduct critical design reviews at different stages of product design.
  • Manage sustaining engineering support as required for existing product line including utilization of value improvement redesign efforts to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction (VAVE techniques).
  • Lead benchmarking and reverse engineering efforts to assess competitive products and technologies.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

MTech or PhD from an institute of repute with 15+ years of experience or B.E/B.Tech from an institute of repute with 20+ years of experience.

Added advantage: Leadership in R&D organization in India or globally
