General Description:

Director coordinate production, purchasing, warehousing, distribution, or financialforecasting services or activities to limit costs and improve accuracy,customer service, or safety. Examine existing procedures or opportunities forstreamlining activities to meet product distribution needs. Direct the movement,storage, or processing of inventory.

Roles& Responsibilities:

21)Assess appropriate materialhandling equipment needs and staffing levels to load, unload, move, or storematerials.

22)Appraise vendormanufacturing ability through on-site visits and measurements.

23)Negotiate prices and termswith suppliers, vendors, or freight forwarders.

24)Monitor supplier performanceto assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.

25)Monitor forecasts andquotas to identify changes or to determine their effect on supply chainactivities.

26)Meet with suppliers todiscuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, or to discussproduction forecasts or changes.

27)Implement new or improvedsupply chain processes.

28)Collaborate with otherdepartments, such as procurement, engineering, and quality assurance, toidentify or qualify new suppliers.

29)Develop or implementprocedures or systems to evaluate or select suppliers.

30)Analyze information aboutsupplier performance or procurement program success.

31)Design or implement supplychains that support environmental policies.

32)Document physical supplychain processes, such as workflows, cycle times, position responsibilities, orsystem flows.

33)Design or implement plantwarehousing strategies for production materials or finished products.

34)Confer with supply chainplanners to forecast demand or create supply plans that ensure availability ofmaterials or products.

35)Define performance metricsfor measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such asproduct cost or quality

36)Analyze inventories todetermine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customerservice.

37)Participate in thecoordination of engineering changes, product line extensions, or new productlaunches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in material or productionflow.

38)Manage activities relatedto strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventorycontrol, warehousing, or receiving.

39)Develop procedures forcoordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such assales, marketing, finance, production, or quality assurance.

40)Design or implement supplychains that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions,new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies.

41)Conduct or oversee theconduct of life cycle analyses to determine the environmental impacts ofproducts, processes, or systems.

42)Design, implement, oroversee product take back or reverse logistics programs to ensure products arerecycled, reused, or responsibly disposed.

43)Evaluate and selectinformation or other technology solutions to improve tracking and reporting ofmaterials or products distribution, storage, or inventory.

44)Identify opportunities toreuse or recycle materials to minimize consumption of new materials, minimizewaste, or to convert wastes to by-products.

45)Investigate or review the carbon footprints andenvironmental performance records of current or potential storage anddistribution service providers.

46)Locate or selectbiodegradable, non-toxic, or other environmentally friendly raw materials formanufacturing processes.
