Job Summary

POSITION PURPOSE:

Lead design, development, implementation and execution of advanced breeding science and technical strategies required for corn product design and development aligned with product concepts and portfolio needs to deliver genetic gain and increasing value in the short and long term for APAC pipelines. Direct accountability for India ME1 and Southeast Asia market segments valued at > $100M annual sales with responsibility to develop products for entire $200M+ annual APAC corn portfolio




YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead execution of strategy for product design and development of diverse corn inbred lines using advanced breeding, genomic and data science. Develop and execute product design methods focused on genomic selection, phenotypic selection, native traits, haplotype breeding and analytics while partnering with functions across the Bayer business to deliver the commercial LRP in India ME1 and SEA ME1 market segment/s,
  • Responsible for development of new and improved inbred lines using Global germplasm and utilization of new breeding methods and cutting-edge technologies including Data science, Genome Wide Selection, Predictive Analytics, Prescriptions, breeding methodologies to accelerate germplasm recycling.
  • Integrates multi-function teams across APAC and partners across other world regions (NA, LATAM and EMEA) to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving genetic gain and product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment.
  • Senior scientist role responsible to provide leadership and mentoring for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development as well as identification of key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvement
  • Leads key projects on implementation of Precision Breeding technical innovations in the product design and development of crop seed pipelines in APAC
  • Supports the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site.
  • Independently identifies research opportunities in assigned areas. Identifies opportunities for technical innovation. Aligns core competencies with business objectives. Currently conducts multiple complex scientific projects. Effectively communicates study findings internally and externally.
  • Designs strategies to optimize product development and technical innovation. Demonstrates creativity in problem-solving. Applies state-of-the-art know-how to solve complex problems.
  • Identifies and implements new technologies to continuously improve processes. Demonstrates an expanded sphere of technical influence. Aligns activities to broad business objectives.


WHO YOU ARE:

  • PhD degree in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Statistics, Data Science or other relevant agricultural science with minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or MSdegree with 8+ years of experience in breeding programs or applied data science projects.
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, as well as coding experience in R, Python or similar software.
  • Strong ability in building cross-functional partnerships and influence others to drive results and innovation focused in solving business problems.
  • Customer- centricity, with proven record of identifying customer needs,prioritizing resources, and bring timely and sustainable solutions
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously
