Job Description

Job Summary:

The Service Engineer is responsible for support of Lithium battery energy storage systems (BESS) in operation. The BESS are sometimes coupled with utility scale wind and solar energy installations, with emphasis on utility interconnection and medium voltage (12-35kV) design.

This position requires strong working knowledge of battery storage systems operation, experience with industry standards and local electric codes.

The Service Engineer is expected to monitor the operation of the system, collect data and provide regular reports, and direct the troubleshooting of system issues. The engineer will be travelling to project site when needed and will be working with several suppliers to troubleshoot system malfunctions.

In addition to the above, the individual will work with the rest of the design team to broaden the system knowledge by building test setups and conduct evaluation testing for new components to be used in future projects. The position will require hands on involvement in building testing electrical systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor operation of battery energy storage systems and provide regular reports
  • Participate in troubleshooting of issues occurring with the systems in operation
  • Interface with the O&M and suppliers as needed
  • Participate in installation of various battery energy system components.
  • Execute test plans in the lab and in the field.
  • Support component factory acceptance testing and on-site commissioning.
  • Coordinate with clients, utilities, partners, contractors and suppliers.
  • Work closely with other disciplines including application and mechanical engineers, developers, architects, utilities and contractors.

Qualifications

  • B.E/B. Tech in Electrical Engineering with 5 - 8 years experience

  • Knowledge of NEC codes, IEEE, UL and ANSI standards, Grid codes in North America and Europe.
  • Experience with BESS development preferred.
  • Working knowledge of reading construction, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Hands on experience with installing, connecting and testing electrical components.
  • Experience with smart devices communication protocol (CAN, Modbus).
