Job Responsibilities:
- Independently plans, organizes, and writes product documentation
- Identifies the requirement for and independently produces related release collateral, such as video demos, blogs, application notes, rapid adoption kits, error messages, nuggets, or man help, in collaboration with technical publications and cross-functional peers
- Defines and implements an appropriate structure and organization for the documentation of individual products and for related products within one or more product areas
- Acquires, researches, and reviews source material, including design specifications, interface design, design diagrams, and test specifications to help improve software quality, consistency, and usability
- Defines, generates, analyzes, and acts on reports for monitoring documentation completeness and quality; for example, comparison reports between software and documentation, CCR reports, other metrics
- Developing leadership role by assigning work and resolving problems encountered by junior team members
- Coordinates and leads the activities of the documentation development lifecycle for one or more products or product areas
- Works with the technical publications infrastructure team to develop requirements specifications related to the Cadence Help online help application and other documentation delivery tools and authoring platforms
- Manages and expands relationships with internal and cross-functional partners to develop and improve processes and systems for documentation development
- Creates and presents internal and customer collateral including presentations, demos, and workshops where required
- Designs and implements language training programs that enhance productivity and efficiency of employees from various teams and groups, not limited to the technical publications teams.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members
- Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Works on multiple complex problems and projects of diverse scope and considers relative value of alternative solutions to potential issues before confirming a final decision on the best way forward
- Performs requirements and solution design as well as architectural work for large technical publications and cross-functional processes and systems
- Assists with tool and software package evaluation and selection
- Has impact on own work team and on cross-functional project teams
- Participates in the definition, design, and completion of specific projects and may function in a project leadership role
- Defines required procedures and practices for own work team and occasionally for cross-functional project teams
- Collaborates regularly with peers and internal partners in all job families
- Initiates and manages team projects with other team members and participates in cross-functional projects and initiatives
- Displays leadership and mentoring skills in anticipation of leading major and multiple projects across teams
- Typically interacts with high-level individual contributors and managers in R&D, Product Engineering, Product Validation, Field AE, Marketing organizations
- Interacts with customers when required and may occasionally represent Cadence to customers
- Facilitates technical discussions with customers and develops a good grasp of real-world customer requirements and design challenges through these interactions
- Represents customer interests where appropriate within Cadence R&D and CFT organizations
- Interacts with wider technical publications community; may publish articles on industry trends, tools, soft skills, and attend and participate in trade fairs and conferences
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- 8-12 years relevant experience in a technical publications role
- Comprehensive EDA or other relevant industry experience preferred
- Excellent knowledge of best practices in technical publications, instructional design, or content development
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Familiarity with the broader underlying concepts of the related job functions in the software development process, especially R&D, product engineering, and product validation
- Ability to define and improve technology, tools, and processes within technical publications and begin to influence the processes in adjacent disciplines
- Strong understanding of software design tools and of current and emerging technologies
- Strongly innovative and creative mindset to apply to solve business problems
- Strong understanding of the companys business, products, processes and requirements
- Adobe Creative Suite desktop publishing tools, especially FrameMaker, Captivate, Acrobat
- Microsoft Office desktop publishing tools, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Confluence wiki authoring environment; Microsoft Windows operating systems; UNIX and Linux operating systems
- Concise, clean, well-organized, error-free writing; might serve as a writing mentor to more junior writers
- Expertise in technical publications technologies and methodologies in use within the BU including, where applicable, DITA, structured authoring, instructional design, online collaborative authoring environments
- Expertise in one or more related and relevant fields, such as GUI design, user experience, scripting and automation, tools, error message improvement, production and delivery, installation
