Job Title: Financial and Operational Controller

Role Overview:

The Financial and Operational Controller plays a critical role in managing financial operations, cost structures, and business planning processes. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including the HUB Controller and LPG Manager, to develop long-term and short-term financial and operational plans. You will be responsible for overseeing the business planning and forecasting processes and acting as the primary interface between local and global management.

Your responsibilities will include evaluating the financial implications of strategic decisions, building financial scenarios, and advising management on operational strategies. You will also monitor financial metrics, such as operational KPIs, product costing, and net working capital, providing valuable insights to support effective decision-making. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, improving financial reporting accuracy, and managing risks will be crucial aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Reporting:

  • Partner with HUB Controller and LPG Manager to create both short-term and long-term financial and operational plans.
  • Oversee business planning and forecasting, acting as the liaison to local and global management.
  • Monitor manufacturing and related costs, including product costing, operational KPIs, and Net Working Capital (NWC).
  • Regularly review the balance sheet and take corrective actions as necessary.

Operational Support:

  • Provide insights and analysis to support operational decision-making, advising management on action plans and operational strategies.
  • Drive cost optimization, productivity enhancements, and capital efficiency.
  • Monitor operational EBITA %, supply revenues, and OCF, taking actions to improve performance.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure adherence to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), Japan GAAP, and all HITACHI Group policies.
  • Align financial reporting with internal controls, accounting policies, and assurance processes.
  • Maintain transparency in financial reporting and disclosures, ensuring proper documentation for audits and reviews.
  • Assess business risk exposure and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on business performance.

Stakeholder Communication & Training:

  • Ensure effective communication with various internal functions, such as Operations, HR, Manufacturing, Sales, Group, and others.
  • Provide clear communication to external auditors, tax authorities, and customs.
  • Lead the Finance for Non-Finance training sessions to improve understanding across support functions.
  • Organize regular training sessions for the controlling team to enhance their knowledge and capabilities.

Continuous Improvement & Sustainability:

  • Support HSE improvement processes and promote a safe working environment.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives and financial performance improvements aligned with Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity.
  • Encourage team collaboration and performance enhancements through regular feedback and data analysis.

Your Background:

Education:

  • A Bachelor s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in business, finance, operational controlling, and accounting. Alternatively, a special combination of education, experience, and demonstrated performance results will also be considered.
  • Strong financial management skills with an analytical and results-oriented approach.
  • Experience in change management and excellent communication skills.

Skills:

  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to support business development and decision-making.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP (CO/FI), with a solid understanding of financial systems.
  • Ability to manage and execute complex financial operations while maintaining compliance and transparency.
