This role resides in one of the newly established IT InfrastructureDelivery (ITID) agile engineering pods within the End User as a Platform(EUaaS) platform, specifically the Virtual Desktop pod. The intent of these newengineering pods is to provide a first-class user experience to HSBC staff,adding increased levels of automation and cloud-based management to our EUaaSplatform. Our ambition is to deliver an industry-leading platform: Highlyautomated, highly self-service, highly secure, highly resilient, and highly mobile.We will do this by developing world-class automation and integrating with thewider HSBC infrastructure environment, through the activities of the agileengineering pods.


The Windows Desktop engineering pod will continue to deliver HSBCsbuild of Windows 10 (internally named CWX), review and define the hardware usedfor desktop and laptops devices, define the configuration to be applied toHSBCs PCs, manage and control the core infrastructure management applicationsapplied to CWX, and be accountable for all engineering work on CWX.


The Windows Desktop Engineer role will work within the pod to achievethe strategic aims of ITID and the EUaaS platform by delivering products andservices in an agile manner. The role will take direction from the defined podleader or assigned team leader and will be expected to work closely with othermembers of the pod.


KeyAccountabilities:


  • Work within the WindowsDesktop engineering pod, covering some or all of: Agile development of WindowsDesktop Infrastructure related products, 3rd level support of said products,thought leadership, technical documentation, verbal and written communication,financial management

  • Demonstrate ability tobuild image, configure, customize and deploy new desktop and laptopcomputers/images.

  • Industry best practiceknowledge of Windows image setup, sysprep, automation, deployment and security.

  • Install, configure andtest approved mission critical software on installed Windows O/S's andtroubleshot any errors or issues.

  • Develop standardoperating procedures for the imaging and configuration process.

  • Image creation, imagedeployments, configuration file creation and management, packaging, primarycontact to stakeholders and IT team for deployments.

  • Diagnosis,investigation, recovery and resolution of various types of hardware problemsand software issues.

  • Scripting (batch files,vbscript, PowerShell) and working knowledge of Active Directory- Group Policy(GPO), DNS, DHCP and SCCM.

  • Be part of a team thatperforms sustainable continuous improvement, identifying and removingorganisational barriers affecting the team, processes and products owned

  • Maintain an agilemind-set by adopting the practices and processes identified as being requiredfor our new engineering pods, leveraging agile delivery methods, associatedframeworks (e.g., Lean) and Bank tools (e.g., JIRA) to do this

  • Understand and followthe ITID strategy and vision and also the Product Management direction

  • Identify continuousimprovement opportunities within the team, focusing on automation, processimprovement, how technology is best leveraged and technology shiftopportunities

  • As assigned: Beresponsible for the teams budget as assigned, perform vendor management asneeded against assigned partners, following all applicable HSBC and ITID policiesand procedures for financial and team management

  • Work collaborativelywith staff within the platform to identify and agree improvement opportunities



Requirements


  • Degreein Computer Science, Computer Engineer or other related courses

  • Minimumof 5 years IT related experience

  • Experienceof managing an agile infrastructure development team

  • Experiencecreating and maintaining Group Policy Objects (GPO);uses Active Directory tomanage computer objects, users, groups, organizational units, and build/managegroup policy objects (GPO)

  • Stronginterpersonal skills ability to influence, lead and drive teams to deliver,good judgement, assertiveness, high level of communication skills to achieveeffective stakeholder management, build consultative relationships, and abilityto collaborate directly with a variety of clients (business, development,compliance, etc.)

  • Provenability to articulate complex issues concisely, suitable for all levels acrossthe HSBC group. Gravitas and ability to interact with and coach seniorexecutives

  • Knowledgeof Windows desktop and linked technologies; Windows 10, Windows 7, GPOs, nativeMicrosoft Windows management features, PC hardware, desktop builds, Windowsapplication management, software licensing, and asset management

  • Experienceof associated technology areas: Microsoft Office, browsers, Java, Windowsapplication development, virtual desktops, Windows security models and tooling,identity and access management tooling, Microsoft Systems Centre, WiFi andremote access

  • Knowledgeof Lean Sigma practices

  • Knowledgeand experience of using agile delivery methods and tools to implement bothtactical and strategic changes

  • Commerciallyastute, ability to balance and assess risk vs. reward, maximising costeffectiveness and profitability for functions and/or business lines

  • MinimumIntermediate English required
