Job Summary

Purpose of the role

Devising and executing category merchandising strategy in line with the department s merchandising strategy.

Deliver sales growth (volume and value), profitability & inventory turns for the category.

Establish a collaborative relationship with vendors for sustainable growth.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop competitive & sustainable category strategy for profitable growth across all the platforms like SM, HM and E-commerce

Explore national & international retail trends & innovate to sustain market position

Work towards building importance for PL business within the category

Ensure that availability for the assortment is in line with the category strategy

Ensure that assortment across the markets is in line with the catchment requirement

Cultivate vendor support & engagement with the business to achieve sustainable income & sales growth.

Key Result Areas

Develop and execute the business and merchandising strategies

Formulate the Category budget to ensure it meets the business objectives

Plan for the upcoming seasons by assessing market conditions and optimizing on the same (supply, quality, pricing)

Conduct regular market visits to better understand category implementations in stores & build upon competitor awareness

Detailed category analysis across all the formats (including e-commerce) to derive insight on the category, competitors and shoppers

Developing national and local category strategies (across product, price, placement & promotion) to drive differentiation and deliver against financial objectives

Develop & leverage the relationship with key national vendors to the benefit of the SM business within the agreed strategies

Manage & optimize the use of supplier resources. Harness supplier knowledge to grow the category.

Develop joint business plans and set the Vendor scorecards & effectively manage the relationship to drive the category targets across all the channel

Prepare the national trade terms & negotiate with vendors

Monitor vendor category service levels and take remedial action if required.

Regular vendor analysis identifying potential opportunities to improve the business

Ensure that all Vendor information is reflected in the systems accurately & take actions to improve data quality

Deliver on the following parameters:

Category Sales (Rupee Value; Unit Movement)

TMI% Margin targets

Management of stock and adherence to the Working Capital norms

Appropriate composition of local range

Implementation of the Promotional and pricing programs

Planning & Execution of agreed private label strategies

Negotiations with Key vendors on TOT

Item and vendor master accuracy

Response time and coordination with zones

Timely and accurate category analysis

Consistently follow the B&M range, price, promotion, space, vendor & replenishment processes & policies

Ensure Category activation of merchandise mix & assortment range plan for all stores

Drive availability by focusing on regular fill rate reviews with the key vendors.
