Job Overview
Qualcomm s in-house Game Studio is looking for a skilled Technical Artist with Unreal Engine experience to collaborate with the development team in creating visually stunning PC/Mobile Tech Demos that showcase the hardware's potential. This role will focus on researching and implementing art workflows, developing tools for game production, and prototyping design ideas using Unreal blueprints.
The ideal candidate will have experience optimizing 3D environments, lighting, materials, and be responsible for enforcing quality and performance standards within the game production pipeline. The role will also include quick prototyping, troubleshooting, and ensuring the optimal performance for the target hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and implement art workflows and develop tools for game production needs.
- Create visually stunning tech demos using Unreal Engine to showcase Qualcomm s hardware capabilities.
- Prototyping design ideas quickly using Unreal Blueprints and ensuring optimized performance.
- Work with art teams to ensure content is performant and meets the quality and performance standards.
- Optimize 3D environments, lighting, and materials, ensuring visual fidelity for mobile & console game hardware.
- Support and troubleshoot artist workflow issues in software, version control, and rendering within game engines.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in the Gaming/VFX industry focused on real-time rendering.
- Strong technical proficiency with at least one scripting language such as Python, MEL, Unreal BP, or C++.
- Experience optimizing 3D environments, lighting, materials, and understanding shader complexities.
- Familiarity with particle system creation and optimization techniques.
- Strong debugging skills for artist software, version control systems, and rendering issues in game engines.
- Ability to create art content that is optimized for runtime and modern mobile & console game hardware.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines in a team.
- Proven ability to work independently and support art teams in a game development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- BFA, BA, or Computer Science degree or equivalent experience in the gaming art field.
- Solid experience with Maya, Unity, and Unreal Engine.
- Visual scripting experience, particularly in Unreal Engine s blueprint system.
- Experience with rigging cloth & hair in real-time engines.
- Knowledge of Animation Blueprints, Niagara system, and profiling tools.
- Experience writing shaders and optimizing rendering pipelines within technical constraints.
- Familiarity with Android OS and Android application development.
- Previous experience working on AAA games as a technical artist.
- Strong knowledge of 3D graphics mathematics.
- A deep passion for gaming, modern game design, and best practices.
Educational Requirements
- Preferred: A BS in Computer Science, BFA, or BA in Art, Design Graphics, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Alternative: Associate s degree and 5+ years of experience in gaming art software.
- High School diploma or equivalent with 7+ years of relevant gaming art software experience.
