The Data & Analytics Organization is responsible for defining the vision for Data and Analytics as well as implementing data and analytics solutions for the benefit all of Elsevier s business units. To help us deliver on our data management roadmap targets we are seekinga LeadBusiness Analyst tolead the elicitation of business requirementsfortheEnterprise Customer Hub (ECH) Master Data Management solution.

TheSenior Business Analystwill report to theDirectorof Customer Data and will be responsible for leading the definition of requirements and supporting adoption of ECH across the Elsevier landscape.



The Senior Business Analyst position is a senior-level position that will work with one or more Business Units, supporting multiple complex assigned projects aimed at delivering IT solutions and services that meet company cost, quality, and strategic targets. The role will predominately focus on gathering and analyzing work group data, defining current processes and requirements, researching best practices, and identifying and documenting process improvements and functional specifications

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, define, and document complex requirements and business processes.
  • Analyze complex datasets to inform and shape business requirements
  • Develop complex - data specifications, process flow, and conversion strategies.
  • Create complex data and functional user documentation.
  • Contribute to the development of new tools, processes, and solutions to meet desired product needs.
  • Follow established business processes, protocols, and quality standards in the development and deployment of complex solutions.
  • Maintain stakeholder expectations and raise appropriate issues to project managers as necessary.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationship with senior stakeholders through effective communication and efficient, quality execution on projects.
  • Gather business requirements and translate them into user stories/functional specifications.
  • Identify and document process improvements and functional specifications based on research of best practices and analysis of work group data.
  • Perform analysis on existing systems; identifying options for potential solutions and assess for both data and business suitability.
  • Work between remote development teams, internal IT, and business to ensure requirements are being met.
  • Ability to - advise on and coordinate business user acceptance testing
  • All other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills

  • A strong knowledge of conceptual data modeling, UML modeling, data flows, data analysis, and data processing.
  • Proven track record of gathering business requirements and translating them into user stories/functional specifications, gained on projects of considerable scale and/or complexity.
  • Ability to analyse complex datasets using SQL. Languages such as Python and R highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience of reporting tools, e.g. Tableau
  • Experience of integration tools such as Knime would be advantageous
  • Broad understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Strong facilitation skills; ability to facilitate workshops with all staff levels.
  • Strong communication skills that allow for effective communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Written communication skills including process documentation.
  • IT research, software analysis, and design skills.
  • Ability to guide and mentor less-experienced team members.
  • Proficient in documenting As-Is and To-Be processes.
  • Broad technical understanding across various methodologies, platforms, tools, and languages.
  • Previous experience of working in an agile environment and using recognized development methodology; e.g., Agile, SCRUM, and KANBAN.
  • Excellent organization/project planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments, and excellent delegation skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and managing projects of various size and complexity.
  • Ability to explain complex data scenarios to non-data literate business stakeholders in order to facilitate decision making
  • Advanced problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.

Advanced communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior and executive management, customers, etc., including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management, and various departments using assorted communication mediums.
