Job Summary

The Quality Test Engineer III position is a key role within our Parity group, part of the wider Elsevier Research Technology portfolio. This position works with a team (squad) and the wider Quality Engineering community (via chapters and guilds). Owns & drives the quality engineering aspects for their squad, whilst providing subject matter expertise and guidance on implementation of new technology.

You are passionate about shipping high quality software to the customer as quickly as possible and make it your business to question everything to achieve that. You understand that shipping high quality software starts with quality requirements and are comfortable helping to define these and fleshing out acceptance criteria. You are confident talking to customers and stakeholders and engaging them in the process where necessary. You are a strong communicator with collaboration at the heart of how you work. You are passionate about efficiency and speed to market and are accustomed to working in agile teams following practices that support continuous integration.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years experience as a quality engineer
  • Proficient automating tests in Java or JavaScript
  • Front-end automation experience using tools such as Cucumber, Selenium, Cypress or similar
  • Microservices testing experience using libraries, tooling and automation (e.g. Postman, Karate, Rest Assured, or similar)
  • JMeter or similar performance testing automation tool experience
  • Deep experience of engineering quality approaches, can ensure requirements are of good quality with the appropriate test approach taken (e.g. BDD, three-amigos, test pyramid)
  • Broad understanding of software development processes focusing on Continuous Integration & Delivery following DevOps principles

Desired skills

  • Building Quality into CI/CD e.g. static and dynamic quality tooling, automated testing built into CI pipelines (tooling examples: SonarQube, CheckMarx, Contrast)
  • Good understanding of the Parity application/product technology: React, Node.js, Springboot, Java, Apache Cassandra, Apache Solr
  • Broad understanding of non-functional testing and QA security, accessibility, etc
  • Comfortable working with cloud-based infrastructure

Soft skills

  • Team player
  • Self-starter, taking the initiative on quality approaches
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to influence, coach and teach the team on quality engineering practices
