The Role: Director, Global Data Management
The Location: Mumbai
Grade: 13
The Team: The Global Data Management team within the Global Index Management & Production Group.
The Impact: The Director, Global Data Management, will oversee the team responsible for the acquisition, management and quality of a variety of data items used for the production and management of a wide range of S&P Dow Jones-branded indices, including the S&P Dividend Aristocrats, ESG and Factor Index families and the Dow Jones Select Dividend Index range.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage an expanding team of data analysts carrying out tasks associated with the management of data used for the production and management of indices.
Additionally, the Director, Global Data Management will be expected to contribute strongly to the design of a framework and strategy for achieving the teams goals and will be fully responsible for the implementation of this strategy. This will involve leading the development of a data management platform to centralize and organize S&P DJIs data processes and establishing data management best practices (data management standardization, utilization, and quality) across business units.
Whats in it for you: As part of the global Index Management and Production Group, you will work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders across the S&P DJI business globally to establish a first-class data management group that will be at the heart of the business. This role is part of a strategic initiative to develop S&P DJIs capabilities and support the growth of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Establish, review and monitor production processes related to the ingestion, validation and storage of data points undertaken by the Data Management Analysts, including the management of 3rd-party providers and the on-boarding of new data points (15% of the time)
- Develop KPIs to measure platform usage and quality standards and to identify areas to target for improvement, leveraging metrics and analytical platforms as appropriate (10% of the time)
- Assess capacity to maintain additional data sets within the Global Data Management team. Liaise with other key stakeholder groups, including Index Management, Research & Design, Product Management, and PMO in the development of new data sets and associated reports or products. (10% of the time)
- Work with senior management to establish and execute on a global strategy to achieve the goal of expanding our data capabilities and achieving operational excellence in the ongoing management of our data (15% of the time)
- Work closely with S&P Dow Jones Indices technology group to further enhance our system capabilities by identifying (and by working as part of a team to correct) deficiencies in, or potential improvements to our workflows and quality control processes. Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) as required. (10% of the time)
- Ensure high standards of quality are met and maintained and practices are consistent across analysts in different locations, where applicable. Lead the QA process for the Global Data Management team to review any errors and enhance processes accordingly. Ensure a clear and robust process is in place for challenging the accuracy of 3rd-party data. Participate in the global QC process. (10% of the time)
- Take a lead role in index committees and methodology reviews to ensure data points are used in accordance with SPDJI standards. (5% of the time)
- Hire and develop a first-class team of data stewards and platform managers to help deliver on our goals. Talent Management for these Global Data Management employees, with responsibility for staff performance, development, and recruitment. (10% of the time)
- Be a subject matter expert and a senior point of escalation for analysts and other teams in dealing with all manner of high profile and complex data issues arising from index production or management (5% of the time)
- Develop and maintain relationships with key members of other groups within S&P Dow Jones Index Services and across other departments, particularly the Technology, Index Management, and Production and Research Groups, in order to further enhance system capabilities and improve processes and workflows (5% of the time)
- Conduct training and education on data assets and platforms (5% of the time)
Qualifications:
- A demonstrable, deep understanding of global financial markets and financial data, particularly company fundamentals
- Familiarity with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) themes in finance and particularly ESG data providers would be considered an advantage
- Minimum of 10 years work experience. At least 5 years' experience working in an index-related environment to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and experience
- Management experience required, including demonstrable experience of developing staff members and building teams and structures to meet business needs
- Bachelors Degree. Advanced degree in business, mathematics, computer science, economics, or finance strongly preferred
- Ability to learn S&Ps proprietary index calculation systems
- Strong understanding of how indices are used, the impact of different methodologies, corporate event events on both indices and financial portfolios
- Superior computer skills in Excel, Word, and related applications. Access, VBA, SQL would be an advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and / or groups
- Excellent analytical and numerical capabilities to aid in solving non-routine problems in a timely fashion
- Ability to take a leading and subject matter expert role in coordination with the technology group and production support group to further enhance our system capabilities by identifying (and by working as part of a team to correct) deficiencies in our workflow and quality control processes
