Position Summary

Teach For India embarks on a bold vision to enable 1 Million Children to gain access to an excellent education over the next few years. This ambitious growth needs to be supported by financial resources that will scale up to 2 - 2.5 times the current levels, going up to INR 120-150 Cr. The Development team will help secure these resources and also build partnerships that go beyond
providing only financial support to fuel this growth.

As an Associate, you will contribute to this vision by driving fundraising efforts towards building long-term partnerships and strong champions for the movement. These include: strengthening and managing existing partnerships by designing donor cultivation efforts which allow partnerships to thrive; identifying opportunities for new partnerships by conducting prospect research and
leveraging connections; grant and proposal writing; creating impact reports; project management through the end to planning and execution of donor stewardship plan, and design/creation of collaterals.

The role can go much beyond that including looking for creative and new avenues for funding. You will be given a lot of ownership of projects and work allowing for a lot of personal growth and satisfaction. Team Overview

Teach For India is one of the top 6 NGOs in the country, in terms of the budget that it raises. Themission of the Development team at Teach For India is to build lifelong champions of the cause and to acquire financial support for the movement. Development is one of the critical backbones of the organizations as the organization is completely dependent on donations in its current form. The National and City Development teams cultivate and deepen partnerships that support thefinancial and non-financial organizational goals. The National team acts as a center of excellence and thought leader and supports the City teams in their fundraising efforts. The National team is also responsible for building and evolving the development framework and leveraging the organizational eco-system to drive impactful donor conversations.

The Development team raises funds from various sources that include Corporates, Foundations, Individuals, Retail Giving, Online, Events, among others. As Teach For India embarks on phase 3 of its journey, the National Development team will also accelerate the cultivation of new workstreams (multi-laterals, US and UK diaspora), deepen penetration into the existing workstreams and
develop system and process enablers to drive efficiency at this massive scale-up.

2017-2022 will be an exciting phase for Teach For India where we will have teams across nine regions work on a broad Organisational vision and implement the same contextualized to the regional realities. These efforts will be co-led and facilitated by the National teams that will bring the city fundraising and partnership efforts together cohesively to work towards a common
organizational and development goals.

Responsibilities

  • Help identify and cultivate new prospects and steward existing donor relationships
  • For existing donors, strengthening donor cultivation and stewardship initiatives (includes Corporate employee volunteering) through the year to build a partnership that is meaningful for the donor and for the organization and supports the renewal efforts for the relationship
  • Portfolio management and managing operations for existing donors in each work-stream
  • Plan, seamlessly execute partner engagement in schools and at various Teach For India events such as KER summit, city conferences, community visits, etc
  • Researching new prospects to determine their capacity to give, care for the cause and any connections with Teach For India, You will also support the Managers/ Director with additional research as and when required. Cultivating the new prospects and continuously deepening their engagement with Teach For India
  • Writing grant applications and proposals that contextualize the Teach For India story to the specific conversation
  • Using Salesforce as the tool to continuously update all current and new donor conversations, to effectively monitor and track progress to goals through data analysis and Salesforce, to aid fundraising efforts
  • Creating collaterals, impact reports, and tools to execute and support engagement and outreach across all workstreams.
  • Support the cities to achieve their goals, be the learning and resource partner for the cities, in collaboration with the manager
  • You may also have the opportunity to manage interns and Fellows working on specific projects under their workstream

Additional Responsibilities

  • You will be required to help during the selection of new Fellows and job placements of graduating ones. Volunteering in classrooms is highly recommended to keep in touch with why we do what we do
  • As a part of the Development team, you will make several external contacts. These should be appropriately shared with the Recruitment, Alumni and Communications teams who also deal with external stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Graduate (in any stream) with 1-3 years of relevant work experience preferably in a role that required writing proposals and reports, i.e consulting, research, legal, etc.
  • Exceptional English language communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to analyze complex data sets from varied sources (both quantitative and qualitative), drawing narratives and communicating impact story to external partners
  • Possess an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products
  • Strong interpersonal skills, which enable you to build meaningful relationships with diverse others and invest them, and a focus on collaborating to reach outcomes with teams
  • Excellent project and time management- Highly organized with the ability to set clear plans and adapt them when required to ensure you meet ambitious project goals within clear timeframes
  • Belief that every child deserves an excellent education and that every single child has the ability to be successful academically whatever their background. Believes in the cause and is in it for the long haul
  • High on integrity, accountability, and drive. Growth-oriented mindset and a drive to develop self as well as to challenge and improve existing systems and approaches

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Past experience in fundraising, business development, marketing, or project management
  • Has worked in the CSR department of a corporate, fundraised for an international NGO or worked in a foundation on the grants side
  • Solution-oriented approach when faced with challenges, and the ability to identify and implement solutions to complex challenges rapidly
  • High sense of possibility and an anything-it-takes attitude
  • High attention to detail, with a belief in the importance of the little things
