Position Summary

The Manager of the Kids Education Revolution (KER) team will support the Senior Manager to lead the KER team towards achieving its ambitious mission of reimagining education for millions of children. He/She will play a crucial role in creating and implementing the annual strategy, managing team members and driving strong team culture, and co-manage KER Week.

Team Overview

Kids Education Revolution is a project that sits under the Innovation Cell at Teach For India. It was established in 2017 with the pursuit of reimagining education, not just within TFI's program and classrooms, but also beyond TFI to explore the possibility of scaling principles that challenge the traditional education system. KER aims to learn and spread out constantly evolving & growing understanding of an excellent education.

The KER National team currently has three areas of work:

  • Understanding Excellent Education: Evolve and deepen our own understanding of holistic education and student leadership
  • Finding Innovations (an innovation can be a practice, platform, project or person): Source innovations to build student leadership
  • Spreading and Sparking Innovations: Create virtual and in-person spaces for learning and spreading awareness of the 3 KER Principles (safe space for voice, kids and adults as partners, kids as changemakers) and 7Cs (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, courage, compassion, and curiosity) in a way that is user-friendly, experiential and moves to action

    Responsibilities

    1. Primary:

    • Develop relationships and engage with 3-5 schools (government schools, middle income, and high-income private schools) where we roll out and integrate KER into their structures and curriculum
    • Capture and document learnings and impact from Teach for India cities and 3-5 partners from the KER collective
    • Design and facilitate learning loop discussions and KER workshops/learning circles with Teach For India cities and KER collective partners
    • Lead one vertical of KER Week 2021

    2. Managing:

    • Manage 1-2 Associates and support the projects that they are leading
    • Monitor their performance through regular progress to goals
    • Individual leadership coaching and management of team members towards goals through check-ins and mentoring
    • Ensure quality hiring

    3. Supporting:

    • Play a supporting role in the design of various retreats KER team retreat, KER retreats for cities, national committee and partners from the KER Collective
    • Play a supporting role in the production of projects that we create to give platforms for voice. For example The Greatest Show on Earth, etc.

    Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

    • Bachelor's degree in any field
    • Teaching experience
    • 4+ years of work experience
    • Basic experience of managing people towards ambitious outcomes
    • Knowledge/Practice of alternate education preferred
    • Strong ability to motivate, coach and manage individuals towards independent and collective goals
    • Ability to build relationships, identify and evaluate synergies, enable collaboration
    • Ability to identify and collect stories of impact, analyze data and evidence, and ask the right questions
    • Ability to work in an unstructured environment and develop strategy independently, while constantly evaluating the effectiveness of their decision making
    • Exceptional project management skills
    • Problem-solving mindset with an orientation towards seeing opportunities in difficult situations
    • Strong communication skills (written and spoken, individual and group)
    • Ability to design and facilitate powerful learning experiences
