Job Summary VMware Workstation and Fusion team is part of Cloud Platform Business Unit (CPBU) R&D organization responsible for delivering our Desktop Hypervisor for Windows, Linux and macOS.
IT professionals, developers, home users, and businesses who build, test, or demo software for any device, platform, or cloud rely on VMware Workstation/Fusion.
The team focuses on the application side of VMware s desktop virtualization software development with a specific focus on security, performance, and interoperability with other VMware products within CPBU.
The team is looking for a Sr. Manager in the R&D organization. This role gives an opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and interesting problems that build on VMware s production-proven platform. It involves close collaboration with internal & external partners, product management, architects, and our customer community, as well as mentoring and growing the engineers reporting to them through career guidance, technical leadership with a laser focus on product quality and security.
The ideal candidate must have a passion for user experience, blended with a very strong systems design background, including graphics and interactive devices. Enterprise software development experience with a key focus on the quality of product and security.
He/or she must have very strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and be able to work closely with internal and external partners to achieve the group s goals.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the team that owns key components of VMware Workstation and Fusion.
  • Expand the team by hiring elite developers. Manage the performance and career development of direct reports.
  • Work with product management and other teams, to establish new requirements and play a lead role in the prioritization, design, implementation of features with a key focus on product quality.
  • Influence, coordinate, and communicate across teams to ensure execution is aligned with priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, customer focused environment.
Required Skills and Background:
  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 8-10+ years experience in managing multiple top-notch software development teams in building and shipping enterprise software through multiple releases.
  • Experience leading products developed using C/C++, Objective C on major application development platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS.).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and solve deep technical issues.
  • Excellent leadership, program management, people management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams of highly skilled managers and engineers, both technically as well as from a people management perspective.
  • Proven track record in achieving successful results working with global cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Proven track record recruiting and retaining top engineering talent.
Highly Desired Skills:
  • Experience managing an end-user-focused application or technology.
  • Experience in virtualization software technology, various operating system platforms.
  • Ability to lead simultaneously and effectively in both strategic and tactical modes.
