Job Description
We are looking for a smart and passionate person to join our Browse Taxonomy Team. The Browse Taxonomy, implicitly and explicitly powers the navigation structures on the retail website, search suggestions, and faceted search to drive active, passive, and guided customer navigation experiences. This person will help build develop an intuitive and comprehensive navigation structure to optimize product discovery when searching and browsing on our site.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly and significantly impact the customer experience by making it easy and fun to shop for products on Amazon. As a Taxonomist, you will be responsible for building out navigational structures to enable the Amazon web & mobile experiences. You will define and organize product selection based on knowledge of Amazons catalog, market research and analytics, taking into consideration customer behavior and language/semantic needs of Amazon customers. You will have the opportunity to influence our customer shopping navigation design and improve product discovery journey for our customers.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Develop browse structures to organize our extensive product selection for global customers
Expand and refine data retrieval techniques to utilize our extensive product catalog and make sure products end up in the right place for our customers
Coordinate cross-functional projects with a broad range of merchandisers, engineers, designers, and other groups
Analyze website metrics and customer behavior data to make intelligent decisions on optimizing our taxonomy navigation structures

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
Masters degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent professional experience
Background in taxonomy/Ontology/Library Science/Linguistics/catalog or metadata management
2 - 3 years of relevant work experience in experience in taxonomy development, content modeling, information architecture or Product research
Can understand how information flows through systems and can write and execute complex queries for information retrieval purposes. Skilled in data retrieval techniques.
Passionate about website usability with great instincts for improving customer shopping experience
Ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language
Detail-oriented, decisive, self-motivated and calm under pressure.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and Project management skills.
Excellent English language skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in E-Commerce
Experience working on both local and global taxonomies
Fluent in multiple languages
Technically strong; Fluent in Unix-based systems and/or SQL databases
Programming skills a plus
