This role is accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of efficient processes, policies, procedures, tools, KPIs / metrics, analytics and training to drive the execution of all R&D projects and programs within PCP. In this role you will consults and collaborates with key stakeholders to standardize, measure, control, and continuously improve processes, systems and tools based on ABB and industry best practices and benchmarks, leading to increased performance and sustainable competitive advantage. You will support, mentor and coach R&D project managers and others in matters related to project management to lead the organization to higher levels of project management maturity. You will provide thought leadership and expertise to establish, enhance and disseminate project management capabilities, processes and procedures across R&D projects and programs to drive project execution competency development and maturity.

Your responsibilities

  • Initiate the development and implementation of project management policies, processes, procedures, tools/templates, KPIs / metrics and analytics (e.g., project, program and portfolio level reports and dashboards) that cover all competence elements for complex projects. Evolve Leaner and more objective Governance Practices - lead the move to objective milestones (Align gate model to SAFe / agile)
  • Ensure efficient and effective integration and alignment with other PCP functions, processes, systems and tools and the PAPCP Gate Model.
  • Establish and maintain integrated reporting capabilities - measure Portfolio Performance & establish objective metrics and reporting. Assist in the identification, selection, implementation and on-going administration of Project Portfolio Management related systems and tools.
  • Provide on-going reporting and analysis of project execution performance (scope, schedule, cost, risk, resources and quality) for all R&D projects to drive performance, transparency and fact-based decision-making.
  • Conduct monthly / periodic meetings with R&D project managers and PCP leadership to ensure that project status, issues and successes are communicated and documented in a timely fashion. Provide guidance to R&D project managers to proactively identify and highlight risks / issues and ensure that they are properly managed and proactively communicated.
  • Perform gate assessments and project audits to ensure all PCP product development projects follow sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with standard ABB directives and procedures, as well as external standards etc.
  • Collect and ensure that lessons learned from project execution are widely-shared and incorporated in continuous improvement actions. Collaborate with other PCP functions as appropriate to identify, implement and verify necessary corrective actions.
  • Analyze and ensure quality of data to provide timely and effective communication and insightful reporting to ensure the transparent and accurate assessment of project performance (including project status, interdependencies and risks / issues) across the project portfolio as required for all key stakeholders to drive fact-based decision making.
  • Train, coach and mentor R&D project managers, and other stakeholders as appropriate, on good project management, agile and continuous improvement practices. Support professional development and help to drive the PCP organization to higher levels of project management competency and maturity.
  • Develop, manage and expand relationships with stakeholders, internal functions, Corporate Research Centers and external relevant parties (e.g., customers, academia). Provides proposals for partnerships.
  • Perform project management of key, cross-functional projects, as needed.

Your background

  • Bachelor€™s Degree in engineering or another technical field
  • Minimum of 16+ years of professional experience with advanced knowledge of project management. Minimum of 12 years experience in project management-related roles including leading complex projects and working with global, multi-location, cross-functional teams. (PMP, Prince2 or equivalent certification preferred)
  • Experience with agile methods (e.g., Scrum, Disciplined Agile. SAFe certification preferred)
  • Continuous improvement experience (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification preferred)
  • Change management experience (Prosci Change Management Practitioner training or certification preferred)
  • Advanced experience utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) and analytic tools (e.g., Power BI, QlickSense)
  • Experience defining / re-defining and documenting business policies, processes and procedures
  • Technical domain knowledge of software, hardware or systems preferred
  • Internal (quality) auditing experience is a plus
