Information Security Analyst: Detection Content Management

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

Were looking for someone who can help us understand the threats that our organization faces, and help us design and improve our monitoring capabilities. You will need to review and understand threat intelligence in order to prioritize and drive our threat modeling and monitoring strategy in order to reduce attacker dwell time. Youll need hands-on experience with threat modeling as well as the latest security products, in order to help us prioritize our efforts.

Success in Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Review and threat model 100% of our critical applications
  • Engage with our Security Engineering team, review detection capabilities for existing security tools and close visibility gaps against common attacker techniques.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing regularly?

  • Most of your time will be spent deep-diving into our applications and services to understand and develop threat models to drive security monitoring.
  • Collaborate in-person, over slack, or through email with the security operations team in order to brainstorm and implement improvements to our detection capabilities.
  • Spend your time learning VMwares processes, standards, and guidelines. Were looking for someone who can find opportunities to improve process, and drive those improvements across our teams.
  • Build and develop metrics and reporting to define the success of our security monitoring. Youll use these metrics to prioritize use case development.
  • Define processes and capabilities to validate our ability to detect and respond to threats.
  • Communicate your products to leadership

This role reports to the Manager, Detection Content Management for VMware Threat Management. His experience includes information technology, internal audit, and security operations. His management philosophy is about encouraging teams to work collaboratively to solve large problems. If you fail, fail forward mistakes are considered opportunities to grow. Question everything and challenge the status quo If the answer is because weve always done it that way its time to take a hard look at the solution to find a better way. He takes inspiration from authors and thought leaders such as Jocko Willink, Simon Sinek, Kristen Hadeed, John C. Maxwell, and others to drive his leadership philosophy for the team.
