Role

The Cloud Platform Business Unit (CPBU) R&D organization is responsible for vSphere, our Core Virtualization Infrastructure, and Solutions for Enterprise Virtualization, and Cloud initiatives including VMware Cloud on AWS. In many ways, the CPBU is the foundation of the VMware portfolio and is crucial to the success of the company.

The Technical Marketing team works together with Product Management and Engineering to help customers realize value from the CPBU product portfolio. This occurs through various types of content generation and through other initiatives working with our field organizations, partners, and directly with customers.

The vSphere Technical Marketing team has an opening for a Manager who will lead a small group of Technical Marketing Engineers. This position will be responsible for day-to-day operations of their team and collaborate with the broader vSphere Technical Marketing Team, Product Marketing, Product Management, and Engineering to create high quality enablement content for the VMware field, customers, and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of individual contributors in creating high quality enablement content including but not limited to videos, whitepapers, demos, PowerPoint presentations, blog posts, graphics, and diagrams pertaining to VMware vSphere.
  • Handle day-to-day operations of the local team and drive team projects to completion.
  • Document team activities and transparently report status of activities up through leadership.
  • Work closely with the vSphere Product Team including Engineering, Product Management, and Product Marketing to ensure appropriate content is created to support the vSphere product, messaging, and roadmap.
  • Identify content that will enable and educate both the VMware field as well as Customers and Channel Partners and help direct the production of that content by the team.
  • Participate as part of the vSphere product launch team to ensure technical content is created and delivered as part of product launches.
  • Maintain current and high-level technical knowledge of the entire VMware product line and future product direction and expert level knowledge of vSphere.

Qualifications:

  • Have relevant and current experience with vSphere, vCenter Server, and the ESXi hypervisor.
  • 2+ years of experience in a management or team lead capacity
  • 5+ years experience in technology related areas including enterprise systems management and infrastructure (data center) architecture.
  • Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Kubernetes, DevOps, or other relevant container knowledge or experience.
  • Successful experience in a role that required great communication and presentation skills (for example, pre-sales, professional services, or other customer or partner-facing roles). Must be able to effectively use a whiteboard in both planned and ad-hoc situations. Must be able to communicate complex topics to novice audiences.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills. Advanced experience with tools such as PowerPoint, Visio/Omnigraffle, Photoshop/Illustrator/Premier/Captivate, or other video and image editing tools highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and fast paced environment and adapt to change.
  • Self-motivated and able to deliver on projects after being given high-level objectives.
  • Bachelors degree or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • VCP, VCAP, VCIX or ability to obtain those certifications required.
