Job Role and Responsibility: We are searching for a Senior Engineering manager to lead a talented team of individual contributors in the vSAN team at Bangalore, India. You will work closely with a team of software engineers and product managers across geographical boundaries so as to influence, define, execute and deliver on product roadmap in the vSAN product. In this role you will be required to,

  • Nurture, grow and mentor a group of high caliber engineers of varying seniority.
  • Proactively plan people and equipment resources for tasks and manage conflicts, so as to optimally manage given resources.
  • Resolve scheduling and conflicting priorities by balancing the tasks within the team and monitor progress.
  • Provide timely and periodic updates on activities and call out and mitigate any risks and dependencies early on.
  • Work with other functional teams in vSAN and VMkernel teams to ensure that features are tested and works seamless across the stack.
  • Share responsibility for managing the vSAN components in VMware Cloud on AWS.
  • Handle Customer Escalations by facilitating quick triaging of issue and coordinating workarounds to resolve issues in a short span of time to ensure the best possible customer experience.
  • Participate in customer calls as engineering representative and provide directions and clarifications as sought.
  • Work independently and effectively collaborate within and across teams spread over geographical boundaries.
  • Foster best technical practices and process improvements in developing and deploying product solutions.

Required Skills:In this role, you will directly manage a team of engineers in delivering high quality technical content for VMware vSAN product. You have the ability to work in a fast pace environment demonstrating autonomy in conforming to strategic intent while adhering to team values.

  • 12+ years of storage platform architecture experience with significant depth around designing, implementing, and managing critical cross-functional integration projects.
  • 5+ years of experience managing development teams working on Distributed systems, filesystems or other storage products in the kernel domain, is a must for this role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong customer facing and relationship building skills.
  • Track record of mentoring and leading development teams.
  • Computer Science or related undergraduate and/or masters degree is required. Any other demonstrated high technology aptitude is desired.

  • Exposure to CI/CD pipeline and Agile development methodologies.
  • Awareness of VMWare ESXi storage stack is an added plus.
  • Domain expertise in virtualization, storage technologies, and File systems.
