Position Summary

VMware is the leading player inon-premises infrastructure. VMwares Cloud Strategy and the Cloud Platform Business Unit (CPBU) is focused on enabling a Multi-Cloud, Multi-Device World where seamless delivery of cloud services to end customers across a global network of homogeneous clouds and heterogeneous endpoints is a reality.

vSphere and VC form the core of the SDDC. With VMC on AWS we have delivered, SDDC to the cloud, and integration of k8s with vSphere as part of project pacific now we want to deliver innovative cloud service to on-premises infrastructure thatleverages our on-premises footprint. With the integration and the focus of Kubernetes with vSphere, we can build an IaaS layer which developers and partners can use to deliver value-added services to the multi-cloud. As part of that effort, we will need to build core competencies in vCSA, Platform service controller, and core VC components. Beyond just delivering net new services, the Engineering leader would work with the SDDC architects to understand how to make the on-premises products more resilient which will make our make cloud service delivery easier and enable higher-value cloud services. This effort represents a strategic project for the company as we intend to transform the company into asubscription-based model.

Reporting to the Senior Director Cloud Platform Business Unit.The successful Sr. Engineer Manager candidate will be an innovative and seasoned leader with a 15+ year proven track record in managing complex SaaS software technologies along with ensuring that existing on-prem customers are taken care of.The candidate shouldbe a seasoned, driven, and passionate Cloud Services/SaaS engineering software leader with a proven track record of leading and transforming the delivery of complex cloud services, products,and technology portfolios. He/she will have successfully shipped/delivered innovative on-prem products, cloud services, and software products that have resulted in significant market impact and have also managed fast-growing organizations at scale.A deep understanding of core VC technologies, certificate management, cloud services, systems, infrastructure, SaaS, and platform software is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage highly talented 10-15 engineers with varying degrees of experience, with direct responsibility to deliver complex features.
• You will be responsible for directly managing individuals within your team as this is a highly technical role where you will be expected to provide technical leadership both for your team and more across the org.
• Work with teams across multiple sites and geographies as a collaborator and partner. You will need to be able to gain respect and trust both from a technical perspective with your immediate team and other teams including development teams, support, operations, and product management.
• Debug and handle complex technical design discussions across various stakeholders.
• Deep knowledge of running a building on-prem products, cloud service and work closely with SRE/Ops team
• Research, design and implement industry best practices in regard to provisioning, maintaining, and monitoring cloud environments.
• Work with product management and other teams, to establish new requirements and play a lead role in the prioritization, design, and implementation of features to deliver on the broader vision for VC.
• Scope and author plans for the complex, large features that may span across multiple teams and be delivered in multiple releases. Track/report project and feature status at the executive level as well as to release management.
• Triage and manage both feature and defect backlogs. In the context of defects, you should be comfortable with understanding complex issues that may come from customers and other teams, including being able to look at logs and other diagnostic information, asking clarifying questions and being able to direct issues right owners. This is a key aspect of the job is a must for this role.
• Operate with a service ownership mindset to work in a DevOps model where the dev team is responsible for all automation, quality, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring of services that are being built
• Able and willing to write well-documented, high performance, reliable, maintainable code.
• You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and direction may change rapidly as customer requirements and market direction changes.

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of software development experience.
• BS/MS in Computer Science from Tier 1 or 2 colleges.
• Excellent design and programming skills primarily in Full Stack with a focus on enterprise server solutions using Java, Python, or C++
• Experience working in cloud technologies - (AWS or Azure is a plus).
• Full working knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, and commercial product development practices in a complex larger enterprise/cloud solutions.
• Working knowledge of basic technologies such as networking (TCP etc).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Hard-working with a "whatever it takes" attitude.
• Able to demonstrate effective teamwork both within the immediate team and across teams.
• Excellent communication skills and able to lead a team of highly technical individuals.
